Trump systematically alienates the Latino diaspora

A Manchurian Candidate who was secretly trying to alienate Hispanics would be hard pressed to do as much damage to the Republican brand as President Trump.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/paloma/daily-202/2018/01/09/daily-...

Republicans will lose 98% of the Hispanic vote for a generation. Not only that, they will be highly motivated to turn out against Republicans for many elections to come.

Wouldn't bet on either of those happening. To address the latter first, there wasn't a big swell in Latino turnout (or backlash) as a result of Trump (see here and here), so I'm not sure why anyone would predict a highly motivated turnout against Republicans who aren't Trump.

And to address the first part, no, they're not. For example, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott won 44% of the Latino vote in 2014 [and actually defeated Wendy Davis among Hispanic males] (see here), and he's gearing up to improve on that in 2018.

Latino's aren't a monolithic voting bloc, and Republicans can win Latino votes.

^^ This.

Frankly there are a whole lot of legal immigrants who oppose illegal immigration for all the obvious reasons.

Sanctuary Bills in Maryland Faced a Surprise Foe: Legal Immigrants - NY Times May, 2017

Why Trump Is Earning Latino Support - RCP June, 2017

according to an exit poll analysis by Zogby Analytics, twice as many Hispanic voters regarded immigration enforcement as too lax instead of too stringent.

Holy shit Demos!  Something we agree on!  Seems like I'm always taking the opposite stance on every issue from you lately.

Your election results are pre-Trump's first year. The impact will be significant. Latino voters may not be monolithic, but the last year and what's coming will not have any kind of positive impact on Latino voting for Republicans.

They're also the 2016 election results (and people didn't think Abbott would do that well among Latinos in 2014, because of his positions on immigration). If Latino voters weren't motivated to turnout against Trump despite his rhetoric on the campaign trail, why are they suddenly going to turn out now?

Based on what? Has there been a significant increase in Latino voter registration?

Quote:

Does Trump help Republicans with Latinos? No, but I don't see where this idea of a big backlash comes from.

It must always be noted that the GOP in every state where they have control
will be limiting the number of Latinos allowed to vote, and that they will
also only count those votes that they absolutely have to. If all the people
who could vote legally were allowed to vote, and all those votes were counted,
the GOP would cease to be a national party. That is why they suppress voting.

Huh

All the people who can vote legally are allowed to vote.

You are throwing about a massive Trumpian level voter fraud conspiracy.
