I understand your point. However, there is a cost to doing business,
and that includes the newspaper business. Maybe you should give the
NYT and the WaPo some credit for evolving into an online presence,
as well as giving them some credit for the reportage that they have done
about the trumP administration, reportage without which we would not
know even a fraction of what we know now about its corruption and collusion.

Again, no problem at all with subscription based reporting.  It's why I subscribe to the WSJ (that and my tax and accounting background that made it an incredibly useful tool for years and I just kept it up out of habit)

My problem is with their grandiose marketing schemes.  It's insulting.

Where do you stand on corporations and profit margins bama?

Oh yeah.

Heck this morning on facebook I brought up my disgust with yahoo's fake news in their financial section.

James Damore just filed a class action lawsuit against Google, saying it discriminates against white male conservatives

Their opening paragraph:

James Damore, a former Google engineer who was fired in August after posting a memo to an internal Google message board arguing that women may not be equally represented in tech because they are biologically less capable of engineering,

Totally fake news.  Not at all what he said.  One thing I've found very disturbing about the left is how long they've been accepting and cheering fake news.  It was when they started screaming bloody murder about the right doing it that I started to break with them.

You should join me in that fight for truth Vypr.  You're a smart guy.  Could use the help.

I have read the Damore memo in its entirety, and in it,
he definitely suggests that women are in many ways less
capable than men when it comes to management and
other aspects of job performance. He also states that
in some aspects, they are superior to men, but he tends
to suggest that there is good reason why so many more
of the higher corporate positions are held by men than by
women. He also readily admits that he might have a bias.

As to his law suit, in it he does claim that Google discriminates
against white, male conservatives. That is the basis of the suit.

If you would, please point out what is fake about the Yahoo story in question.

Texas Tribune maintains significant international overhead from its foreign bureaus? Is this apples to apples content?

Newspapers aren't doing to well maintaining them with the current subscription based model (see here).

Given that the number of foreign correspondents has declined and continues to decline, as well as the changing nature of foreign correspondents (see here and here), that doesn't seem to be the big obstacle you're making it out to be. PBS and NPR would be similar models (most of their funding comes from donations/grants).

And for the record, the Tribune does have some remarkable coverage of Mexico and Latin America.

I have a problem with the very idea of "incorporation",
especially as it is applied today. Executives and board
members of many corporations are required (some by law)
to act as corporate sociopaths behind a wall of blanket
personal indemnity provided by the so-called "corporation".

As to profit margins, I find it sickening that corporations
are making record profits while passing on the real cost
of doing business to people and entities outside of their
corporate structure. I am tired of the subsidies, the tax
credits and the loopholes. I resent the gouging, the near
total disrespect for the worker and the consumer, and the
devastation of the environment. Not all corporations do all
of what bothers me. But generally, those are my complaints.

CNN isn't free either.  Ever been blocked from reading a CNN article?

Huffington Post?

Slate?

Why would they be free now?  Principles maybe?  The principles they claim to espouse on their banners?

Are they champions of democracy and the disenfranchised as they claim?  Or are they corporations seeking profits?  Can you be both?

What are their principles again?

I shared the piece already bama.

Damore's memo was about how Google is using the wrong strategies to attract female engineers.  That in fact the left's attempts at attracting women are wrong because they don't address the different motivational factors of men and women.  He did not "suggest" women are less capable than men.  He said the reason Google only has a 20% female workforce is because they (and the entire tech industry at large) are refusing to acknowledge the differences between men and women and if you read the memo then you saw he provided suggestions for how Google could achieve gender parity in its employment force.  Why would he have ideas for how to attract women to the industry (that were solicited I'll point out again) if he thinks they're incapable?

The Guardian, a very well regarded (if a bit lefty) British broadsheet, is free online.

It’s dying on its arse financially. Does begging pages like Wikipedia.
