As I said we will see if it goes to the Supreme court, but as for now the federal judges have determined that in this case.

The Wisconsin case is already before the SCOTUS (why is this so hard to understand); they heard the arguments last October, and the plaintiffs are arguing they can prove partisan gerrymadering (Source).

And here's the oral arguments transcript from the Wisconsin case: https://www.supremecourt.gov/oral_arguments/argument_transcripts/2017/16-1161_mj...

A ruling in that case will be out before the North Carolina case will be heard.

There is nothing hard to understand except your bitterness.  Calm down Demos.  I am not attacking you.  I am just discussing the North Carolina case because of the three judge panel decision.  I don't know why that is so hard for you to understand.

Odd how the same people that lust for a flat tax don't seem to mind congressional districts that resemble one half of a Rorschach Test ..

Still  Good to see a judge put a stop to yet another Republican attempt to win by cheating.. (Think Voter ID)

~ gerrymandering is as old as the Republic itself.  Both parties do it and the courts often strike the schemes of the Republicans or Democrats based upon one claim of bias or another.  The party in power is the one who draws the lines and come up with "good reasons" for why it must be down.  Whatever party is the minority party, at the time, always comes up with good reasons why it's unfair.

Bottom line....Gerrymandering on either side is wrong.

Ah, but unfortunately that's not the bottom line. Maybe you're different, but you know as well as I that which party is doing the gerrymandering very, very much determines which person is outraged most of the time.

I'd like to find a way to eliminate it, and I've read some proposals, but most of them rely on a unelected body, which is as problematic as the elected one, but in different ways, or rely on some sort of voting-by-party method which seems like it would bolster the two-party system over third parties.

I keep thinking there must be something like how you get someone to split the last piece of cake evenly between 2 people: one guy cuts and the other guy gets first pick. But I can't think of anything similar that would work with this much more complex cake.
