Gee Whiz, how's a body suppose to loaf around all day if Trump's gonna make you work to get welfare!  Medicaid for able bodied recipients is a form of welfare!  Get off your ass and get a job!  Angry

(snip)

States can impose a work requirement on some Medicaid recipients, the Trump administration said Thursday, announcing major changes that could push able-bodied people learn new skills or take jobs to get off the government dole.

The policy is voluntary, with states interested in the changes asked to submit proposals for how they would push beneficiaries toward work.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said it would not accept any plans that affected people with disabilities or others suffering hardships, saying the goal is not punishment but rather to entice those who could be working to get back into the job market.

Medicare and Medicaid are two different programs.  I paid into Medicare when I was working.   Now I'm old and cantankerous and receive Medicare, for which I still pay monthly.  Seems to me that whomever wrote the article did a disservice to Medicare people by lumping the two programs together.  Medicaid is supposed to be for the poor, and I don't believe they8 pay into it.

No, only cruel and asinine. We all know where this is going.
Y'all are looking to cut welfare and poke holes in the social
safety net. trumP said he wouldn't go after Medicaid, yet
here he is doing it. And y'all won't stop at this. You never do.

Many people using Medicaid are using it to pay for end of life care.
My grandmother, a lifelong Republican, had to go into a nursing home
in her last year, and she had to use Medicaid to pay for it. What kind of work
would you have her doing, lying on her death bed, unconscious during
those few weeks or months? Are you people out of your collective minds?

Or are you just that cruel and uncaring?

Do you think that the states will include folks in nursing homes in the group of "able-bodied" beneficiaries that would be required to work?

You are posilutely correct!  Smiley  All of us who worked paid into both Medicare and Social Security and we still have to pay for Medicare  (having our Medicare payment taken out of our social security check before we get a penny!)

Congress has created unfunded social welfare programs and periodically has tapped our social security trust fund for start up money for all manner of new "entitlement programs".  Now, these very same THIEVES in Congress are trying to lump all "entitlement programs" together as if there is no difference in the ones we have been forced to contribute to and the ones that are now paid for out of the general fund.

The divils are in the details;  Medicare and Social Security are classified as non-discretionary budget items, while everything from school lunches to Obamaphones and everything in between, falls into the category of "Discretionary Budget items".  It's time to have a talk about Discretionary Spending Programs.  This includes what should stay and what should go, as well as how large such programs should be.  For instance, the School Lunch Program that we all grew up with has expanded to include breakfast and even "school lunches" in the summertime when kids are out for summer, with no explanation of how this is " a school lunch program".  ALl the new, non-discretionary spending programs grew over the Obama years.  However, it's not just Obama and the Democrats, the stinking GOP Congress is also culpable in creating these very popular programs, which we simply can not afford!

It's cruel and uncaring to expect someone able to take care of themselves to take care of themselves? I would say that taking money from people that do take care of themselves and giving it to people that can take care of themselves is more cruel.

That cruelty comes from making the people taking care of themselves less able to do so, while at the same time giving those able to take care of themselves who do not no incentive to do so.

Government policy, in this regard, cruely dampens the ambitions of those two groups at the same time.
