Nikki Haley says Trump's Syria decision means leaving US allies 'to die'

Washington (CNN)Nikki Haley, President Donald Trump's former ambassador to the United Nations, issued stinging criticism of her former boss on Monday, saying Trump's decision to remove US troops from northern Syria as Turkey plans a military offensive in the region means the US is leaving Kurdish allies "to die..."

The White House announced Trump's decision Sunday night following a phone call between Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The move marks a major shift in US foreign policy and effectively gives Turkey the green light to attack US-backed Kurdish forces. The group, long considered as among Washington's most reliable partners in Syria, has played a key strategic role in the campaign against ISIS in the region...

Later on Monday Graham tweeted that he and Democrat Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland will introduce bipartisan sanctions to call for Turkey to be suspended from NATO if it attacks Kurdish forces.

They were allies.

I don't care. The only people that matter is us. There's no reason to put *OUR* troops in harm's way in that worthless sand trap.

Perhaps you say that because because you have no clue about geopolitics.

They are, but how they got to be so just raises questions about what we were doing in the first place.

Also, it's not like this is the first time we've screwed over the Kurds.

Allies in what?  Specifically?

In killing ISIS in Syria.

The scary Caliphate from a few years ago. The guys that took over after we tried to draw down and established a quasi-state. We partnered with the Kurds (again) to assist in ridding ISIS from the Syrian front and now we're abandoning them to the local despot, again. Remember the post-Persian Gulf Conflict when we asked them to rise up against Saddam?

Those guys.

I could deal with it if we were truly leaving, for good, but we're not. This is the result of a perfect phone call, IMO.

Hasn't that morphed by now into a rather ambiguous affair that could be considered simply assisting the opposition of Assad?

I mean here's actual video of "Isis's final battle" in Syria.  From CNN.  From February of 2019.

This is the tagline of the video:

"In its dying days, ISIS' fight to the bitter end has been captured in exclusive footage by freelance photographer Gabriel Chaim and obtained by CNN."

Syria and Russia have both said ISIS is dead and it's time for the US to leave.

But for some reason, we just can't leave.  I can't imagine what that reason might be.

Do you remember a thread I started about how we're never getting out of Syria after a dinner conversation with a friend on the ground in ... wait for it ... Kurdistan?
