I did say that "evidence matters"..   I said "Believe" as in take the report seriously.  "Believe" as in authorities should at least investigate the account.

Then I agree with you 100%. I can now consider my post a simple clarification for those who may have interpreted your post a different way.

If the electorate is corrupted dangerously by facebook accounts and fake news then democracy is an unfit form of government in this new, modern world.

This is easy: How do you know she got that black eye from the accused?

You seem to be trying to shift the conversation to one specific case. Again, I am talking about in general terms. Try to keep the politics out of it, and answer based on my premise.

My experience of a career in law enforcement has taught me that some women can lie and make up credible stories as much as some men do.

A good con can cause themselves an injury and blame someone else. This is sometimes the case with "in custody" assaults claimed against police officers.  I have witnessed our concealed cameras showing arrestees causing injuries to themselves and later claiming the cops did it.  I am not saying that sometimes some cops do what they are accused of, by those claiming to be vitims, but the same may be true with "a woman scorned"  (it's that Hell Hath No Fury as...thingy!  Wink
