I am humored that the Christian faith is only Conservatives, shows me a real disconnect from the reality that Christans are on both sides.  Probably not for Communist and Socialist but Dems?  Yes, there are Christians who are Dems.

I bet there are some who are communist and socialist, too.  I believe some of the very early Christians are recorded as "selling all of their possessions and pooling their assets, distributing to those in need based on need" or some such.  That's a paraphrase.  Somewhere in Acts, maybe Acts 2:45 or thereabouts.

Now Communists (note the capital letter) in the strain of Josef Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, et al, are a different matter.

And socialism is not, contrary to what you (and others) might think, inherently "Godless."

There are tons of Christian socialists.  Latin America had so many that the Pope cracked down on them.  One of them, Francis Bellamy, wrote the Pledge of Allegiance.

But depending on how much each one weighs, it wouldn't necessarily take very many to make tons.  I get your drift, though, and agree with it fully.

I sometimes get the feeling that these self described "evangelicals" who still blindly endorse Trumpster think that Jesus, when He returns, will be driving a Mercedes Benz, wearing tailor made suits, and sporting a Rolex watch. And the first thing he'll do is register as a Republican.

And the only "miracle" they'll recognize is turning heaps of inherited money into bigger heaps...

To them, "richer than god" has a very literal meaning.

FC,

I've been thinking about how I can respond conversationally without coming across as a total dick.

I also think that some who profess to be followers fail to demonstrate the very characteristics of love and humility despite how one votes, as God has no concern about political ideology.  Ephesians 4:29

Well, I dunno.  I think he cares about how people are treated, and to the extent that is a part of one's "political ideology," I think he cares.

But you're right.  If you look at actions and words of people who profess to be Christians, even "ardent" ones,  I think you'll find many who claim they are of the flock whose actions and words do not support that claim.  And that's not uniquely liberal  or conservative.

But I will say this: from my experience, I find more unChristian behavior and words among so-called conservative evangelicals than I do among so-called liberal evangelicals.  In fact, it's hard to find anyone who refers to himself as a liberal evangelical.  But people who do the things Jesus commanded his followers to do and say the things he commanded his followers to say frequently raise the ire of alleged "conservative evangelicals."  But I know my experience is limited.

I am to the point where if anybody ever tells me I don't fit the mold of "evangelical" I take it as a compliment.

If you are in the Word daily, studying and pray, I find less interest in politics and more wrapped in my walk.  I am no where near the level of postings today as I was 8 years ago in the political forum.

I'll take your word for it, but your postings on political events seem pretty frequent and not infrequently vitriolic.  But it coulda been worse 8 years ago.

Anything is possible, although some things are hard to imagine.
