The rate is based on the original price, not the current value.

I paid twice for my used 2013 Mercedes then I paid for my brand new 2016 Sentra.
So I'll pay the same thing every year.   Angry

Does your state do this?

Grin Grin Grin Grin And you are happy about that?  Automobiles depreciate as soon as you take them off the lot.

Yes, I heard about this. Just goes to show McLame’s true loyalties. Hopefully, Trump won’t go to his funeral very, very soon.

I'll try but it might be beyond my ability. Insulting is "like 90% of what I do here."

If you live here in Florida, or own property and spend most of the time here. There is no tax on your car. Just the registration. Depends on car or truck. About $80.00 dollars a year, some less. Motorcycles less. And if you are a permanent resident, you also get a tax break on your home. The do not tax you on the full value of the home. Research it. We don’t want any democrat rules down here.

No.

In California the registration is based on the fair value of the vehicle. For a new vehicle, that's the purchase price. Same for a used vehicle - the price when sold as used.

The problem we are having here, however, is that the state has jacked up the "fees" attached to car registration. These fees are independent of vehicle value. Latest I saw was that registration for my 1950 Chevy has jumped from under $50 twenty years ago, to $130 for the next renewal. I've had to take some vehicles off the road and put them on non-op status because it's just too costly to register (and insure) them year after year.

Oh, and the roads still are full of potholes.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a car nut Wink

Its not that easy. Many of us have that excuse. Maybe being a low crime state effects us. Family or higher costs. A 100k house in Lower Maine or many other states is about 70k where I live. I make good money for this state too. Maybe some day I will, but I like my good paying job.
