She does not want to walk into the shitshow that is a campaign against Donald Trump.  I can't blame her.

How many potential Democratic candidates are taking that into consideration I wonder?  How many would just rather wait til 2024 and a little cleaner campaign?

It'll be interesting to see how many walk their talk come 2020.

I'd read your similar question in the other thread but was stumped on my answer. Whoever get's selected in the primaries is gonna have a surreal campaign ahead of them. As of right now, I have no idea who that's gonna be and don't hold out much hope of an Obama type surprise. Was feeling the same way heading out of '04 and the Democratic field looked fallow. Couldn't believe the country re-elected Bush after Iraq so that was a real lesson in my false consensus bias and I don't wish to underestimate the electorate again. In the short term, I'm just looking for more seats in the House and Senate...worry about the Celebrity POTUS position after the midterms.

Actually I believe you may have 'overestimated' the electorate.  Turns out that they're more ignorant than you imagined.

It is very, very difficult to unseat an incumbent POTUS. That's something the Democrats need to understand. And yes, this applies to Trump as well.

One of the major obstacles you have to overcome is getting people to admit they were wrong. Most people have a deep aversion to that, but you have to flip votes* to get any incumbent out and the more significant the office, the more significant the error one has to own up to.

You have to fight human nature and that's not easy.

* Your only alternatives to flipping votes are getting the opposition to stay home, which still necessitates an admission of error, or overwhelming the opposition with your turnout, and that's not easy either.

I just think we're dealing with something different with Trump.  And we're all still trying to treat him like a normal candidate.

I'm torn Mojo.  I almost think the best thing for the future health of the Democratic party short term would be for the Trumplicans to pick up a couple seats in both the House and the Senate in 2018.

Something that isn't impossible for them to do dependent on how the rest of the year shapes out.  If the economy doesn't crash as TL predicts but rather grows stronger on the backs of the incredibly high small business and consumer confidence ... and Trump satisfactorily resolves North Korea or at least the appearance of resolution is there ... and Canada blinks in the NAFTA standoffs due to steel tariff threats ... and suddenly the Democrats aren't looking so strong going into 2018 campaign season.

Then perhaps they'll find they need some issues.
