If they wanted a conservative, wouldn’t they have just gone with the Trump endorsed self-professed conservative instead of conservative-lite?

Sure if they were both handsome, 35 year old military vets.

Objectively man ... you have to admit ... Saccone was just a bad candidate.  The Republicans even admitted that in the month or so leading up to the election.  He was a wet blanket.

What's funny is that could have been a competition between two handsome, 35 year old military vets.  The Republicans still don't even know what being a Trumplican means either.

Being a Trumplican is not the same as being a republican.  People who voted for Trump, did not vote for him because he was a republican, they voted for him because he was a reality show host and a millionaire.  But he could not convince those that voted for him to vote for Saccone.  In fact, Trump is so bad at endorsing candidates, if I were running as a republican, I would say to Trump, "thanks but no thanks".

Yes, I heard about this. Just goes to show McLame’s true loyalties. Hopefully, Trump won’t go to his funeral very, very soon.

They voted for trumP because of who they are more than because of whom he is.

I don't know about that.  Some of them are coming back to reality.  Lamb won.

Another way of looking at it that doesn't deny reality, is the only reason Wet Blanket Saccone came within a gnat's whisker of winning is because of Trump's support.

But in the end they went for the handsome, young, energetic pro Trump candidate instead of the old fossil who seldom knew what he was talking about and couldn't fundraise his way out of a paper bag.

Potato. Potatoe.

First this awesome campaign ad showing Conor Lamb shooting an AR15 (OH THE HORRORS!)  It was Lamb's first campaign ad he aired.

The New Yorker:

Conor Lamb’s Campaign for Trump Voters in PA-18

. Yet up close the special election in PA-18 looks more complicated. Many of the people who will vote for Lamb are Trump voters who still support the President. Lamb, in his conversations on doorsteps, assiduously avoids talking about national politics. “I don’t ask them what they think of the leadership of my party,” he said. “I just say, usually, ‘Look, I’m a Democrat because my grandfather was a Democrat, and he was because F.D.R. was.’ ”

****

“This isn’t a referendum on Trump,” Hallam said, explaining that it was about work and health care and wages, and that Lamb’s opponent stood on the wrong side of all of these issues.

****

Lamb looked oddly vibrant, with rosy cheeks. I asked whether he would see a victory as part of a wider national pushback against Trump. “I’m skeptical about it,” he said. He sounded genuine, but his stance was also savvy. The people he was still working to reach wanted no part of a “blue wave” that had passed them by so many times before. They wanted to know that Lamb meant it when he said he was willing to buck the national Democratic Party on the issues that mattered to them. Part of what many had liked about Trump was his willingness to go it alone. Lamb simply had to prove that he was more of the same.

Don't let this opportunity to learn and grow pass you by Wadsworth.

I think they got a conservative.

As far as I can tell, the difference between the two was pretty slim ideologically and it was definitely slim electorally.

I'm guessing it was factors other than ideology that tipped the balance (irritation with Trump's behavior, the personalities of the candidates, etc.)

What we can't say is that this is a big swing towards Leftist ideology. That simply doesn't make a lot of sense based on what actually happened.
