Oh my, you slept through history class, I bet.  As an aside, I'm not a conservative.  I voted dem in my early voting years until I realized they lie through their teeth and gave the Rep candidates a chance.  I've pretty much stayed with them, although I did like the forcefulness of Truman as POTUS.  He, like Trump, was a plain spoken man and was a business man (a haberdasher) prior to getting into politics.

The northern Reps and the few Dems who lived in the North did not own slaves.  That was a Southern deal, and the South did not recognize the "Negro" as being human.  The owning of slaves was the real reason for the Civil War, no matter what fancy dancy other reason people of the South occasionally come up with.  The North and Reps disapproved srongly.  There were no Reps in the South prior to the Civil War, at least not enough to have any influence.  In fact, in some areas in the South the Reps were actually banned, if I remember correctly.

On edit:  Class Over.

You get confused so easily. I don't believe that I said anything about Dems and repugs.

Could you please tell me how many dems were classified as conservatives and how many reps were classified as liberal during that time period?

Pray tell, to which party were you referring when you used the words "liberal" and "conservative"?

Yes.. Because Civil War era Republicans were progressives where Civil War era Southerners were conservative.

And used Biblical passages to support that belief and to justify the owning of slaves..

You got one right.

Because they were Liberals..  Progressives that fought to end slavery.

Because the Civil War South was predominantly Conservative.

History 202:  I don't believe that during that period of time, the words "liberal" or "progressive" were used regarding politics.  I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the Republican Party was begun about that period of time.  Don't put the classification of our era onto an era over 150 years ago and expect it to be accurate.

We had the Whigs and something else which has slipped my mind.  Possibly it was the Tories, a holdover from our American Revolution.

I got curious so I researched when the Rep Party was founded.  It was founded in 1854 to stop the spread of slavery.  You can read further, if you're interested.

The terms Liberal and Conservative were in use then and meant the same as they do today.

BTW, the President only needs the votes in Congress to declare war, not to order a mission.  War has not been declared, nor did he ask that it be, as far as I know.

Think for a second.

Every attack is a mission.

When there is an attack on a foreign nation that is an act of war and it is -supposed- to be approved and declared by Congress before such an attack is made.

What Trump did was a violation of the Constitution.  It was illegal.  Unfortunately he will not be held accountable.

Lomelis doesn't understand how a bill becomes law, but he is a constitutional scholar when it comes to presidential powers.
