I suspect Trump is going to run smack into every technical obstacle the North Koreans can throw at him, just as happened with the Iran negotiations.  If there is to be anything concrete, it will end up looking like the Iran deal.

The irony.  Oh, the irony.

Has yet to happen so there is no irony.  There is rooting for failure though.

Don't misunderstand me.  I am not rooting for Trump to fail.  A friend of mine and I were talking about Trump just after the election, saying "wouldn't it be wild if he ends up being the best president we've ever had?"

Trump's behavior since that time has been... disappointing.

I have fervently hoped for a Germany-like reunification of the Koreas for a long time.  I would love to see it happen.  I would love for there to be a grand bargain proposed, jointly supported by the US, China, Russia, and Japan, granting the North Korean leadership their own high-security island somewhere, where they can live out their lives without want, just to get them out of Korea and get the reunification underway.

Short of that, I hope they can find a way to denuclearize North Korea.  I find it highly unlikely, especially with Trump announcing that he doesn't have to "prepare" for these summits.  I find it very likely that we'll just hit status quo again, with the west offering concessions and Kim clinging to his missiles.  And I find it laughable that Trump thinks he'll work out some sort of de-nuke framework after he just threw our credibility on those sorts of things out the window with the Iran deal.

Trump actually wants this deal, so maybe he won't toss it out like he did the Iran deal. Also, there are going to be other people working out the details here. That doesn't mean negotiations won't hit a snag, but Trump won't be in the room overseeing every detail - the broad strokes have been established and the ball's in Pompeo's court.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I stand by mine. And I feel strongly about all the issues I posted. I do. Not MSNBC. Not CNN. Not some other organization. Me.

I see long-term damage being done, and if you don't, well that is your lack of foresight, in my opinion.

I see the seeds being planted that will grow into problems for the future. Pretty standard conservative strategy, actually. And if this were a normal presidency, you may be right, we could change things back pretty quickly. But this is NOT normal.

You may think Trump is strengthening us, but I could not disagree more. He is crippling us as a unified people. He is tarnishing our 'brand', our most valuable export, and it will take decades to recover.

YOU are also Entitled to your opinion as wrong as it may be. I'm glad we finally have a president who isn't going to bend over to the rest of the world and take it in the ass.  Why should America  pay 200% more for tariffs into Canada than the tariffs Canada pays to import to America? All Trump is asking is for a level playing field what's so wrong about that? The last 2 presidents obama and Bush sold us out to the rest of the world now Trump is cleaning up their stupid deals.

Behavior does not concern me, results do though.

He threw out obama's and Kerry's terrible deal of course Iran loved the deal they got a plane load of cash AND got to keep pursuing  Nuclear weapons who wouldn't like that kind of deal personally I think both the muslim obama and traitor John Kerry should of been brought up on Treason charges.

If you think that Trump will be able to take away Kim's nukes, then I got a bridge to sell you.

People who have followed Trump's business career closely maintain that he's generally not a very good deal maker. The one exception might be for Trump Tower, where he managed to hoodwink the NYC powers that be into granting him a sweetheart tax deferment break for something like 30 years. But he's had so many glaring failures: Trump Air, Trump Water, the Taj Mahal, etc. Deals where he was so desperate for the image that he paid way over the fair price for his acquisitions. He wound up on the verge of personal bankruptcy as a result. Now he's just skating on his image, which is mostly just hot air.

Like others here, I don't really want him to fail in the NK deal, but I'm not going accept him pissing on my leg and telling me it's raining, either. So far he has got little out of Kim, other than the theatrics. Calling this a "peace agreement" is such a stretch as to break all the rubber bands in a bank vault. There is NOTHING concrete about it, just bland expressions of putative good will, and intentions. Trump walked in unprepared, and it shows. To his credit he limited the talk to just one day, so he wouldn't give away more than a few hour's worth of meaningless drivel. I'm fairly certain that Trump's interpretation of what this joke of a deal means is quiet different from Kim's, and Kim's is actually the one based on the facts of the matter.

This is a fun time.
