Bush was accused of helping his unnamed friends, not himself. How would a blind trust help with that?

In the mind of the public, once a [insert job here] always a [insert job here]. How many times have you heard Obama called a "community organizer" by his opponents?

We all acknowledge that a businessman's job is to make money. I think that colors our perceptions of him differently than say a doctor, a teacher or even an athlete or actor.

Cheney did work for the oil interest while he was VP. You can't deny all the bs fake clean up procedures accepted when permits were issued.
Can't believe that you don't remember the exact duplicates used by every oil company seeking a permit. Remember the procedures to clean up Gulf of Mexico walruses and sea lions.

Could be that you forgot the first words out of Cheney in the first full cabinet meeting 6 months before 9.11, "how do we get into Iraq"

What about all the oil servicing contracts that came out of Iraq

And the biggest, what about the exclusion of clean air and water regulations for haliburton for their fracking?

Yes, there was corruption.

We're talking about TRUMP, not BUSH.

Do please try to keep up.

If you're not going to read my posts, why reply to them?

It's not really a response to you so much as it is a rhetorical response to the people who refuse to acknowledge there is a problem at all. I have heard people ask why Trump should have to have given up control of his business at all. People just don't get it.

That's fine. I fully admit there's a problem with the way Trump handles business and governing. I'm just also bringing up a related problem.

The fact that I don't go all in on disparaging Trump bothers some people here and I get it, but it doesn't really interest me that much. I think his weaknesses are fairly well documented and very few people actually defend them. Most of his "defenders" on specific issues simply point to Democrats and scream "hypocrisy!"

Nor am I trying to derail your thread. I acknowledge that Trump has a problem here.

But Trump won't be around forever and I do wonder how a businessman, even an honest one, can ever really participate in national politics without running into some kind of serious ethics issues. Any omnibus spending bill is going to affect his business interests, those of his friends or those of his competitors. The nature of that impact is going to call into question his motives in a way that doesn't really happen as much to other professions.

I find that an interesting issue tangentially related to your OP. If nobody else finds it so, they may ignore me.

If you're not going to stick to the topic, why should anybody read your posts?

Trump could have avoided a LOT of criticism over his conflict of interest by turning ALL his business over to a blind trust. But he didn't. Instead, he turned it over to his sons (and perhaps Ivanka as well), which is anything but blind.

Bush and Obama are irrelevant when it comes to Trump's conflicts of interest.

Because conversations don't work the way you know it. You don't stick 100% to every OP either. The OP got me to thinking about something along the same lines, but not exactly the same thing as the OP. I mentioned it, while addressing the info in the OP, which I agreed with.

This is why I don't think you're reading my posts. I agree that Trump has caused problems for himself and I agree that this is one of them. I don't think he cares, but that's another issue.

Of course they aren't, but they are relevant to my other thoughts on the issue of businessmen in elected office. Again, this is why I don't think you're reading my posts. If you were, you wouldn't say this because I think it's fairly obvious I wasn't directly talking about Trump's current issues when I mentioned them.
