Will Trump destroy NATO?

Jaysus lord....

Quote:
— President Donald Trump came out brawling in his first public comments here ahead of NATO's annual summit, accusing a close US ally of being "a captive of Russia," calling members of the alliance "delinquent" in their defense spending and insisting they increase it "immediately."

Trump's provocative comments -- particularly those aimed at Germany -- at the outset of the NATO summit are sure to amplify the sense of unease among the United States' closest European allies. Their concerns had already set in ahead of Trump's arrival on the continent, following weeks during which the US President has increasingly and vociferously aired out his grievances against many of them.

Meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Trump played nice for the cameras -- insisting he and Merkel have a "very, very good relationship" and congratulating her for "tremendous success." Trump declined to address his earlier comments about Germany being "totally controlled" by Russia, merely confirming that he and Merkel discussed the issue of German imports of Russian gas.

The US President signaled that he would take an aggressive approach in Brussels as he departed the White House and via mid-air tweets aboard Air Force One, but the US President's direct criticism of a close NATO ally -- Germany -- and his ongoing airing of grievances on European soil took his criticisms up a notch.

I'm sure he has a few kind words for Putin.

No. He can't pull us out of NATO, and we will be meeting our commitments there (Mattis is going to ensure that happens, unless he's replaced, but whoever replaces him would likely honor those commitments as well).

What his antics may do is make it harder for us to rely on NATO allies in places like Afghanistan, etc. where we rely on their assistance. And possibly push those allies closer, ironically, to Russia, as well as China, as they seek to allay concerns about Trump.

President Donald Trump told NATO leaders that they should double their defense spending from the current target by 2024 of 2% of GDP to 4%, according to a Bloomberg News story quoting Bulgaria's president. "President Trump, who spoke, raised the question not just to reach 2%, today, but set a new target - 4%. He just left after he announced that," Bulgarian president Rumen Radev told reporters, according to BNR public radio, as quoted by Bloomberg. Many countries, notably Germany, are struggling to reach 2%.

WTF..."kind words for Putin", that's what you got from that?! Trump likely pissed Putin off trying to take money away from Russia....
Clearly Trump's pressure on NATO is getting results as he was credited for such in the video.
What do you have to say about the point Trump's making about how we are supposed to be protecting Germany from Russia but Germany is enriching Russia and strengthening Russia by buying their natural gas...70% of the natural gas Germany has comes from Russia.

Some people there do appreciate our President for what he's doing.

Hey CC, you know they support us in our actions against the Taliban and ISIS.  You know more than a few of their troops have been killed supporting us.  You know that he tried to hit them up for 4% rather than 2%.

What say you about that?

We are paying money to protect Germany from Russia and Germany is instead making themselves dependant on Russia it's counter-productive at the least.
