FC,

I've been thinking about how I can respond conversationally without coming across as a total dick.

I'm a Christian. I've been in many different denominations and studied the early church and the reformation which led me over time to become an Anglican Catholic (ACC - Continuum). This is not to be confused with the Episcopalian church which has become very liberal and very apostate.

For one, it doesn't believe in a cult(Christianity) that went mainstream and fairy tales

Cult:a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing.

Hello Jesus

So was there a Jesus in your opinion?  I am assuming as a deist you are claiming that there is some sort of higher power.
