But to answer the topic...

I have usually preferred to get my music and movies on hard copy: CD, tape, DVD, etc. I have picked up a lot of such stuff at Costco at good prices. However this year Costco seems to have eliminated their CD's and DVD's. So...

But I have multiple playback units, as well as recorders. I can record shows directly to DVD, and then play them back later. I do this mainly with PBS stuff, like nature/science/political shows, as well as their commercial free Saturday night movies. All off the digital broadcasts received via a rooftop antenna. Very good quality. For more recent content... I have a good speed internet connection, and have ways of accessing stuff that isn't broadcast.

My phone is also internet based (Ooma) and it works quite well and a whole lot more economically than Ma Bell.
