There are no similarities at all. The right to own a firearm is constitutionally protected. There is no constitutionally protected right to own an automobile.

This reminds me of the leftist claim that one has a right to marry the person they love. There is no such right. If there were, why does Cameron Diaz currently not an inhabitant of my bedroom?

Interesting counter. Just like there is no right defining marriage as between opposite genders, yet your side freaks out at the concept. Why the double-standard?

Marriage, no matter the participants, is not a constitutionally protected right. As I just stated above, you have no right to marry anyone... including the one you love. Marriage is a tradition, and one most likely started so the woman and children would have protection from danger by the man. It's a biological necessity, not a right.

You seem to be quite confused as to what a right is.

No, I think it is you that does not understand what rights are. You seem to think rights are explicit, and not implied, yet the Supreme Court disagrees with you.

The 14th amendment, and laws passed since then, do treat marriage as a right.

So again I ask, why the double-standard?

As a conservative I’m fiercely independent and as such don’t like anyone especially govt telling me what I can and cannot do.

I also believe if people are happy in life they will bring others happiness.

I have no issues with gay marriage. It has no impact on my life and I have no desire to hold someone back from enjoying the bond I have with my wife. And the vows are part of it.

Government doesn't bestow rights. The Bill of Rights protects certain rights, and it certainly isn't all inclusive.

Your statement is a perfect example of why I said you don't understand rights. You believe the government is responsible for giving you rights, and you are wrong.

I am not directing my question at your personal views, nor am I accusing you of anything, as I do not know where you stand on these issues, but you have to admit, the conservative ideology does not look favorably on gay marriage. Yet I think I proved that marriage is a right.

So why the double-standard?

I could not disagree more. What is the government, if not the embodiment of the documents that define it? To say it does not give rights is simply false. Government creates the conditions for rights to be had. Protection, being top of the list. Do YOU control the military or the police, or does 'government' control it?
