Animated: Those vintage Tex Avery Cartoons.

Sports: I run seven miles a day, that's enough sports for me. I don't need to watch it on tv or the on the big screen.

Horror: The election of trump.

Superhero: That guy with a cape or was it the other one?

Faith-based: Are you kidding me?

Western: the last one was decades ago... I think it was The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

SCI-FI: Trump's wall... Well, I loved The MIB,  the three of them.

ACTION-COMEDY: Maybe Some Like It Hot. That one was a masterpiece!

Drama: Bert's posting history or is it harry's? Maybe Saving Private Ryan (not to be confused with Shaving Ryan's Privates)...

FC,

I've been thinking about how I can respond conversationally without coming across as a total dick.

I can't simply do genres because my interests are varied. For me it's all about the writing and the acting.

Army of Darkness
12 Angry Men
To Kill A Mockingbird
Phantasm
The Life of Brian
The Kingsmen
Bullitt
High Plains Drifter
The Warriors
Machete
Dog Day Afternoon
Dr. Quartermass and the pit (Hammer version)

I'm all over the place.

Same.  Every one of those movies you mention that I've seen are fantastic movies.  (I have not seen Dog Day Afternoon or Dr Quartermass and the pit.)

I would add to the list a few movies that surprised me how taken by them I was.

Notting Hill (Fancy a f**k still makes me laugh)

Broke Back Mountain (yes seriously.  And I went into it expecting to hate it.  My wife finally broke my wall of resistance after several years of subjecting her to action flicks and it turned out to be one of the top 5 best movies I've ever seen.)

Raisin in the Sun

Shawshank Redemption

The Matrix

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Logan's Run  (Probly just childhood nostalgia.  It had boobs!!!)

But to revisit "Life of Brian" which has been one of my favorite movies most of my life ... I'm pleased you didn't say Holy Grail.  HG is fantastic, but it's kind of introductory Python ain't it?  It gets you interested and then .... the body of work!

crappity smack.  How did I forget Dune?  The one with Sting.  Not that remake I tried to watch and couldn't sit through.

It prompted me to read every book by Frank Herbert.  I especially recommend "The White Plague."

Dune is one of those movies I have watched dozens of time and still not sure what is going on.

Da books!

The story gets even crazier.  Dune Messiah makes the issue with the spice and the sandworms make more sense.

But having said that ... it's been 25 years since I read all 6.  So ... I don't really remember what's going on anyway.

I'll have to read the books.

The creepy child molester with the bad complexion, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen still creeps me out to this day.

A lot crazier, Alia turns into a Baron's possessed freak, Paul is blinded by an atomic device but is able to see because of his psychic powers, his son turns into a sandworm, lives 3000 years during which he becomes a galactic tyrant... just to name a few.
