I’m agreeing with you fids and reinforcing your point

Upon reading lomelis last post regarding oententing ideas, it occurred to me all at once he has no idea what he is talking about. He thinks people patent ideas.

Lomelis. Do urself a favor and read up. Here’s a start.

Hey I think fiddler and I agree on this

I’m being sincere that I believe in patent and copyright rights.

I’ve challenged those opposed to give me examples of where a patent locks out competition and there have been no examples given.

The Epipen is a good example. Mylan has a patent on the tech through 2025. And that's why they charge 600 dollars for them.

This is so out of control that people have taken to making their own pens at home.

Quote:
You can copyright songs, but that doesn’t prevent new music.

Sometimes it does. There are lawsuits over copyright infringement in the music industry all the time.

If IP were taken to an extreme, it would prevent new music. For we know all music is just a remix of old ideas.

Quote:
You can patent a drug, but for any one disease there are countless drugs (ie chemo drugs) that use different mechanisms and methods and compounds to target cancer or fast growing cells. One company patents something and another company leapfrogs it with another better product and patent

That often happens but at the same time new ideas are prevented from coming into being by virtue of firms being locked out from using certain methods or mechanisms. They don't always come up with alternatives.

And even when they do come up with an alternative that represents a lot of investment that could have been used for other purposes.

These rules are in place to limit and control the market because people like yourself and Fiddler are afraid you can't compete.

LOL.. . Right.. Clearly you've never developed an idea..

This seems close to delving into the realm of insult.

Lomelis knows that you don't patent ideas in the abstract. Ideas are patented only when they are embedded in some sort of invention, process or technology.

Anyone that develops such intellectual property would simply stop doing so if they we unable to recoup their investment.  And if you think First-Mover Advantage is a given.. let's ask GeoCities, Lycos, Netscape, AOL, Yahoo or MySpace.

First mover advantage does not imply long run success. If someone else has a better product it won't help you.

All it means is that there is some advantage to being the first to market with a new technology. We have to be realistic about the time it takes to reverse engineer something and put a dupe into production, and then get it to market.

By that time the first mover should already be rolling out the 2.0 version.

But let's consider for a moment that TL might be right..  Just look at the success of intellectual property developers working in countries without the burden of patents and copyrights.. Developers are surely clamoring to get into places like Somalia, Afghanistan, and Myanmar.

Not necessarily. There is more to investment and innovation than the patent story. We also have to consider the impact of other factors, such as the existence of secure property rights, free markets, the rule of law, a commercial culture, and an educated populace.

No you tool.

I find it amusing that you are agreeing with Fiddler who will readily admit he is in favor of these policies and others like it because they put controls on the market.

Do you get it yet?

Watched it.  A shotgun is for long ranged shooting.  That is why hunters like them.  An AR-15 is not.  That video was misleading.
