Trump fires secretary of state via tweet

Quote:
Early this morning, the president announced via Twitter that Mike Pompeo, the current director of the CIA, would replace Secretary Rex Tillerson at the State Department. Steve Goldstein, a State Department official, told CNN that Tillerson found out via tweet this morning.

Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 13, 2018
This is not the first time the president has publicly fired a high-ranking member of his administration without letting the individual know ahead of time. Last summer, former FBI director James Comey was made aware of his firing during a speech he was giving at the FBI field office in Los Angeles. TVs in the room ran the news as he was giving his speech.

NOPE!

Since when is a tweet a personal encounter? It's not. It's like sending a letter to the editor.

Personal means calling someone into your office, and telling them PERSONALLY face to face that you're letting them go.

Tweeting a dismissal is a coward's method. Toad is an abject coward.

Hell, as I understand it, DJ Toad didn't even personally fire people on his Apprentice shows. He rehearsed the "You're fired" line, and than was edited into footage of the fired person sitting there with a blank look on their face. One of the show lackey had already told them they were fired.

Sorry, but you are one of the gullible useful idiots that Toad gathers around himself.

"In person" means you were with the person when you fired them.

"Personally" means you did it yourself. Nobody else was involved. However, you might have used a telephone, e-mail, or some other means of communication.

The question i was asked was "Name one Trump administration official Toad has personally fired."

But is that how Tillerson found out  he was fired?  By tweet from Der Fuhrer?

I thought it was more like how Comey found out HE was fired.  Like a news broadcast.  Or like others have been fired, when there was a person between Der Fuhrer and the victim who relayed the message.

edited to add: what I found, after diligent research (fifteen seconds of pointing and clicking) is that, apparently, Tillerson did find out he had been fired via a tweet.  But it was not a tweet to Tillerson from Der Fuhrer.  It was a tweet from Der Fuhrer to his gazillions of followers.  That does not count as a "personal firing" in my opinion.  That's more like the Comey firing.  A public announcement during which the victim learns he has been fired.

Donald Trump has reportedly tried to fire John Kelly, but failed because the White House chief of staff “just ignores him”.

I'm no Trump fan, but this seems fairly unlikely.

Well, since "personally" has multiple meanings, she's right and, unfortunately, you are wrong to say otherwise.

It can mean done "in person" "done by the action of the individual in question" or "done by the individual in question and no other" among other definitions.

If you meant in person and only in person, you should have said so.

If Trump fired someone by Twitter, it is perfectly legitimate to say he personally fired him/her as it meets (at least) one of those definitions.
