Ho hum.

No matter who the Dems choose as speaker, they have a clear majority in the House and can exercise that power to further their positive agenda, and to block Todt's destructive agenda. They can also investigate his finances and possible corruption in office.

Basically it's like having 222 adults in the room, making adult decisions.

Finally.

I agree 100%

Pelosi suffers from the same disease as republicans -- cutting off debate and amendments.  There are times when it is necessary to do so, but too much of that ends up throwing the whole process over to Pelosi's team.  Too much concentration of power and not enough crowd-sourcing.

Trumpublicans will do whatever Trump tells them to do.  If Pelosi's only path to the gavel is to cavort with Trumpublicans, then Trump will clear the way.  He is clearly very anxious to get her as his opponent in congress.

I dearly hope there is a battle for the speakership, and that somebody else wins.

The Dems definitely need some new blood at the top if they want to maintain and build on their gains.

Putting Pelosi back in that position is handing a gift over to the Reps.

Watched it.  A shotgun is for long ranged shooting.  That is why hunters like them.  An AR-15 is not.  That video was misleading.

This was my thought as well.

Trump and Pelosi have already started air smooching at each other.

And as I argued in another thread ... the Republican party that emerged from Tuesday night might as well have the Trump logo stamped on it.  If Pelosi is what Trump wants, the Newly Minted and United Republican Party will go along.

The new Democratic Party is also far more moderate and establishment than I would have liked to see.  Even tho I knew it was what we were going to see.  I'm skeptical they're going to march into Washington carrying torches and pitchforks.

Contrary to popular opinion, Pelosi, like Feinstein, is a pragmatist. If she can get part of the Dem agenda accomplished by cooperating with the R's, she'll do it gladly. But neither one is a push-over. They both represent the centrist portion of the Dems.

Now, as to why Todt is praising her... he might be channeling Jasmine. Who lately specializes in cloaking deep insults as compliments. I think Todt also figures that Pelosi has baggage that he can use for political points. He probably prefers he to a younger, photogenic, charismatic male representative upon whom Todt's typically misogynistic, racist, and elitist attacks would be deflected.

But I repeat: if Pelosi is supplanted, it doesn't change much about the results of the midterms. The Dems will retain control of the House. True, legislation they pass could get stopped in the Senate or by a veto. But the big change is that they can stop legislation from the Senate from passing, and require some compromises to get essential government business accomplished.

But you can be sure that for the next two years there will be more of this "repeal and replace Obamacare" nonsense. The House will block that.

+1

Been needing new leadership since 2012, IMO.

Just having a vagina isn't PC enough any more in the Identitarian party.  How about Ocasio Cortez as speaker?  Smiley  As Beavis and Butthead used to say, that would be cool!

"Hey, like I don't understand all this parliamentary procedure stuff, so can we just vote for socialism?  Everyone in favor just say aye! aye!, or whatever."

I'll believe a battle for speakership when I see it. Right now I'm very skeptical that she'll have any significant competition.

I agree. Pelosi is a lousy public speaker but she knows the issues backwards and forwards and apparently knows how crack the whip to get her party members to fall into line. Not an easy task with more than 200 of them.

The House has always been a more rough and ready chamber, when compared to the more plodding and august Senate. Part of that is due to the much shorter terms in office: 2 years instead of 6, which means the representatives keep their ears much closer to the ground as they have to fight for re-election far more often. The other is that they represent smaller slices of the electorate, so they have to keep local concerns in the forefront. Pelosi wouldn't be where she is today if she hasn't been able to get into the trenches and win.

You're all dreaming.  Pelosi is out of step with the new democrat party.  The new party is the home of bitter millennial losers.  It's got a new, hard edge.  Supported by antifa city-wrecking fascists.  Black lives matter thugs.  Eager young militantly ignorant socialists. White-hating minorities and white cucks.  Feminazis worse than I've ever seen.  The whole damned civilization-destroying zoo.

True or not, none of that matters.

If you're going to take a shot at someone like Pelosi, she has to be weakened enough that it will be fatal (politically speaking) or you're the one whose going to get buried.

Pelosi has the power and the connections. No elected official in the party has more than she does.
I don't think she's been weakened enough for anyone to risk a confrontation with her.

Besides that, I don't think the party has changed all that much since 2016 when the nominated the personification of party establishment for President.

A party that nominates Hillary doesn't seem likely to boot Pelosi.

But I'll make a concession. I don't think anyone's foolish enough to try it, but if someone does, I don't think it will get very far.
