Racists believe that some races are inherently better than others. DNA, whatever. Just better.

Socialists and marxists promote this notion of from those with ability to those with need. Not a short term basis charity idea, but long term.

So.... I don't understand how this connects to the left or taxing the rich

If you hold that individuals vary in their abilities, is that racist?

I don't believe so.

so would you say the argument for taxing people who become successful is warranted because they have some natural given, but unfair, advantage...relative to others...

I'm not arguing with you...I'm just trying to spark a conversation around why do some always look at a rich person, and say such idiotic things like "they are not paying their fair share" when they typically pay a staggeringly high amount relative to the average person...

it feels like to me, we were all on the same starting line, all under the same rules...the gun went off, and after 4 laps, some on the track are hoping the track umpire will add some weights to the people out front...on every 8th lap, we all take a break, and we go thru this democratic process whereby everyone running gets a vote whether we should add some time to the front runners and subtract time from everyone else...

guess how the votes will go...

But we were not all on the same starting line.  Do you feel that your child is on the same starting line as lets say Kayne West's children?  Do you feel that a physically disabled person is on the sam starting line as you?  Do you feel that people living in third world countries in poverty is on the same starting line as you?  I think that you need to reassess your feelings.

There are racists on the right and on the left. That should be obvious.

No, I don't think that makes sense.

If there is an argument for progressive taxation, it is pragmatic, ie we tax the rich more because that's where the money is.

The distribution of tax liability is a political issue. One might say THE political issue.

And in politics fairness takes a backseat to group identity. The moral argument for taxing the rich can be reduced to tribalism and class war.

But I don't think that amounts to racism.

The massive racism of the left is narrowly focused on one group - white men.

Exactly. And he was right, too.

1. I don't worry about kanye west's kids or anyone else's kids in the context of "is it fair" regarding how much wealth do they have vs. me...and what implications that may or may not have...their kids may feel cursed, that they never had to work for anything, or had chores (I don't know this to be true of his kids specifically)....like my kids did...or I did....to me, it's not a zero sum game...their wealth does not come at my expense...

2. I absolutely feel there are some in society that need help...some permanently...a disabled person, kids whose parents die with no relatives...the question is what percent need permanent help, vs. what percent need temporary get on your feet help...I feel many of these systems exist today in our society and the west in general. If the number who need help keeps growing as a percent of total, hat is a bad trend...for many reasons.

3. As much as I feel for some in other countries...I am a big fan of the phrase think globally, act locally - right down the street from me we have a shelter for all homeless kids...little wanderers....I care about kids in africa getting enslaved and slaughtered...and I hope my gov't allocates "some" effort to assist...but we have many needs here that must take priority. If I have a dollar to give to charity, little wanderers is getting most all of it.

The wants always exceed the means...it comes down to choice...should we take 100% of charitable contributions and send them to africa...or should it be 10%...or 0%...what are our needs here...the taxpayers of the US do not have unlimited resources....the gov't has zero resources...only resources it takes from it's citizens via taxes. The citizens have the right via legislators to decide how their money is spent.

But honestly, I have a big problem, when states like ours and others each year decide those making more than 200k need to pay an add'l 3% to fund x...and the next year its those making more than 150k need to pay an add'l 3% to fund y...of course in a state like maine, those initiatives pass, becaus ethe vast majority don't make that and they figure heck, why not, lets screw the rich (read up on the 1913 soak the rich campaign, and the start of indirect taxes on a permanent basis)....BUT this year one failed when they tried to go down to "households" that make more than $125k a year must pay an add'l 3% to fund Z....finally they went low enough where those who are constantly robbing peter to benefit themselves saw where this was going and it did not pass...to me, that type taxation and legislation is not right.

Well, You need to look at a list sometime and see which STATES have the highest rates of poverty, lowest rates of education, highest rates of divorce, highest rates of teenage pregnancy, and lowest income? Generally speaking, it's RED states.  Taxation provides services.  Yu could not live as well as you do if you did not pay for it.
