Imagine if the PRC arrested the CFO of Cisco.

Sure, they'll react much in the same way we would in that scenario.

The difference is Cisco is an entirely private company while Huawei has close connections to Beijing and follows directions on telecom espionage from the PRC government.

We'll take advantage of the fact Cisco systems are U.S. technology, but Silicon Valley's attitude towards our government is pretty different from the Chinese tech sector's towards their own.

Also, she'll be given a fair trial here. The issue is what kind of information can the government use against her that's admissible in court. If it would be difficult to prosecute, then the administration might be tempted to use her as a bargaining chip, but DOJ really really hates doing that. And it's just bad practice. She's being charged with actual crimes. Using her as a bargaining chip in trade talks like Trump tried to do with ZTE only makes it seem like we made up the charges to gain negotiating leverage.

So hopefully we bring her here, and the evidence is solid for a conviction, and then we can have a conversation with Beijing on cybersecurity and IP issues in the context of the trade deal using her lawful sentence as leverage.
