I could care less about this study. Completely irrelevant.

Yes, there are cases where guns wielded at home have saved lives, warded off criminals, and solved problems.

There are also cases where guns wielded at home have led to accidental deaths, enabled unstable people to kill, made suicide tragically easy, and created problems.

We can go tit for tat with anecdotes.  But the better approach is to study the statistics and find out what is really going on.  Maybe gun ownership in that neighborhood you lived in, without children underfoot, was a good thing.  There will certainly be cases like that.  But for significantly more cases, gun ownership brings more trouble than help.

If it is a problem for you, then do not own a gun.  I am an adult who will make a decision as to what is best for my family.  If you are a liberal who owns a gun and are scared, I would recommend you turn it in.

Yes, this study has no relevance to our lives.  If we want to look at stats just how deadly is the car in society which kills more people.  Part of living is taking risks, we do this everyday.  I have no desire for government in my life as you do.  Let us live our lives as we desire, not as you desire for us.  No one has asked you or others to hold our hand as you need.

Looking further and at some of  his other works it is easy to see that the author has possible political reasons for first drawing his conclusion and then back-filling select data, from which he himself then draws the conclusion.

Sugar is seldom used to rob someone..

So this is about robbery now? I thought it was "health risk". That's what the thread title says, but what do I know?

Fiddler wrote on Mar 12th, 2019 at 3:32pm:
And we have Don't drink and drive laws.

Laws concerning guns on public property exist as well. Are we talking about that? Or are we talking about things that pose a health risk in the home?

To the individual skier.

And to the skiers and snowboarders around them. Have you not been made aware of accidents involving multiple skiers?

Fiddler wrote on Mar 12th, 2019 at 3:32pm:
Perhaps.  Especially when that dangerous activity can be initiated by a child or by an enraged husband.

Like taking your family skiing or feeding them a diet full of refined carbohydrates?

I never had a gun in my house at all until three years ago when my man moved in with his. I don't know where he keeps it and have no idea how to use it. Nor do I want to.

OMG!!! Should I be worried?  Shocked

I'm not.  Smiley

Indeed.  Cars, as useful as they are, have been so dangerous in certain circumstances that we have a raft of regulations, licensing, renewals, insurance requirements, and criminal codes governing their use and ownership.

Think about it.

As a matter of fact, I don't have to follow any of those rules so long as I keep my car on my property.

Think about it.

The point is that 'sugar' risks only the individual consuming it.  Still I suspect many wives would have preferred to be threatened by a bag of Dixie Crystals sugar than a 9mm..

And I see your point about skiing as we see so many incidences of people taking someone skiing so that they can collide with them as many times as it takes to kill'um..
