If you're not talking about the recent bailouts, you're off topic.

No, you are moving the bar. I was commenting on Greg's assertion that we give welfare to farmers. That isn't the case. Subsidies cover various insurance and conservation programs. There is no welfare.

Bailouts count as corporate welfare and to be quite honest, subsidies do as well.

Ironically enough, the link you presented makes the case that farm subsides are indeed a form of welfare:
Quote:
All of these subsidies ensure that farm incomes are much higher than the incomes of most Americans. Farm programs are welfare for the well-to-do, and they induce overproduction, inflate land prices, and harm the environment. They should be repealed, and farmers should support themselves in the marketplace.

If that's the truth, and I believe it is, Greg was right twice.

I am not a supporter of tariffs in general. What Trump is doing, I think, is using tariffs as a weapon to get us better deals. If we get better deals out of it, I have zero problems with his actions. But I doubt it's a wise long-term strategy.

I half agree with you.

I am not in favor of tariffs to resolve trade issues. But this latest stunt isn't even to resolve a trade issue.  It's to address an immigration dispute. So it's an abuse of the tariff tactic in addition to being a bad idea in general.

Drumpf is flailing about, out of control.

I saw that, but that's his opinion. If he would only read the words he wrote above he'd be hard pressed to back his claim of welfare. Welfare implies that something is gained for nothing. But there is no pay for no work.
