Ok, am I only person who gets pissed at people downplayin a horror film because it isn't rated "R"? It really ticks me off when people trash a film marketed as horror and brushes it off saying true horror isn't rated PG-13. Yet, there's all the horror movies that are in fact R-rated and are crappy as hell.

What do you say and what do you think?

*Drag Me To Hell
*1408
*Darkness Falls
*Twilight
*New Moon
*Ghoulies
*Killer Klowns From Outerspace

Drag Me to Hell was a decent horror flick for what it was aiming for

I'm on the opposite side on this one. I think the problem with most horror movies today is that instead of starting with a good idea, and trying to make the scariest movie possible, studios start with a target demographic (teenagers) and then crank out a paint-by-numbers piece of rubbish that isn't scary, original, or even interesting. I really wanted to like Drag Me To Hell, but the truth is, I liked it better the first time I saw it when it was called Thinner. Speaking of Stephen King, 1408 was even worse than the short story it was based on.

The best horror movies I've seen all year were the After Dark Horrorfest Films to Die For series I got for Crimbo. They were all low-budget, independent films. None were overly graphic, but all were rated R or unrated, so they weren't confined artistically. Some were far better than others, but all were more original, more interesting, and much more scary than any mainstream theatrical releases in the past five years.

Imagine if Tobe Hooper or John Carpenter had to bring their respective masterpieces in for a PG-13 rating. Imagine if The Shining or The Exorcist had to have been watered down for an under-17 audience. Have you ever watched An American Werewolf in London or 28 Days Later on network tv?? It just isn't as good.

I understand the business. Teenagers buy movie tickets. That's fine. Go ahead, movie studios. Make movies for teenagers, and rake in the cash. Just don't try to sell it to me as horror, or even decent film-making. It just ain't my cup of tea.

I'm with Mac on '1408'. The short story was merely adequate and the movie was, was...words fail me. Just like the movie did.

On the other hand the book 'Cell' scared the be-jeebers out of me, and I would like to see an film version.

Drag Me to Hell by all means was no "sink into the covers" horror movie but for a new age cheesey poltergiest style effects movie... it was decent... no where near theatre price worthy

I agree too!! Drag me to hell was okay, but not movie ticket worthy.

I have a kinda funny story to tell:
My dad was trying to be nice to my family & wanted to take us out to the movies. My dad told my kids that Drag me to Hell was a comedy, he looked up the wrong movie reviews, my youngest & her friend about had a heart attack watching it, it was so funny watching my dad try to explain what happened, later I told him I knew it was suppose to be a scary movie & the kids have seen movies like that before, I was shocked when they freaked out over it!! My dad was dumb founded!!! (how could Drag me to Hell sound like a comedy) Ha ha ha
I did try to tell him earlier that day it wasn't a comedy, I just didn't tell him it was suppose to be scary. (I'm such a little witch sometimes)
